AltoRank vs. Outrank: 8 Outrank Alternatives Compared (2026)

AltoRank is the open-source Outrank alternative: it picks topics from your own Search Console data, drafts articles in your site's voice and tracks where they rank. €69/mo hosted for up to three sites, €199/mo for a client roster, or €0 on your own server.

Outrank is a $99/mo AI SEO tool that researches, writes and publishes articles to one site on autopilot. People look for an alternative for three reasons: they want to read articles before they go live, they run more than one site, or they want to own the tool. The 8 alternatives below are compared on those three, with an honest verdict on when each one wins, including when Outrank is the better pick.

Why people search for Outrank alternatives

Outrank is a fine product for what it was built to do: automate SEO content for one website at a time. The friction starts when you want to read what goes out under your name, or when one site becomes several.

Editorial control vs. autopilot

Outrank's value proposition is autopilot publishing: drafts go straight to the CMS. That suits a side project. On a site that sells something, most owners want to read an article before it carries their name, and agencies need it, because clients pay for editorial judgment on top of automation. Outrank's permissions are limited, with no clean owner/admin/editor split. You either trust the autopilot fully or you don't use the feature.

The multi-site tax

Outrank's pricing assumes one site. Run it for 15 clients and you're managing 15 logins, 15 billing entries, 15 disconnected voice profiles. Outrank ships volume discounts (10–20% off for 20+ sites), but the operational overhead doesn't shrink. Every client is a separate subscription with separate state. There's no unified agency dashboard, no single login for your team, no way to switch between clients in one click. You end up rebuilding the multi-client layer yourself in a spreadsheet.

The white-label vacuum

Agencies sell content as a service. Clients want to see the agency's dashboard, not Outrank's. Outrank ships no white-label option, not for reports, not for the dashboard, not for the domain. When you send a monthly report to a client, it's branded Outrank. Your differentiation gets eaten by the tool every time you share a screen.

None of this matters if you want hands-off publishing on a side project. It matters a lot if you read what goes out under your name, or run more than one site.

How we evaluated each Outrank alternative

We compared each tool from its public product pages, pricing and docs on four questions, not on generic content-quality scores:

  1. Who decides what goes live: can you read and approve an article before it reaches your site?
  2. What a second site costs: one account for several sites, or a new subscription each time?
  3. Whether it sounds like you: does the voice come from your own site, or from a tone preset?
  4. Whether it notices slipping pages: does it flag articles whose rankings are dropping?

Then nine criteria: review before publishing, cost per site, voice source, team roles, rank tracking and slipping-page detection, CMS reach, client reporting, source-code ownership, and analytics integration (Search Console, GA4).

We did not score on raw content quality. Every tool in this list can produce a publishable article on a good prompt; the differentiation is operational.

AltoRank

Best Open-Source Outrank Alternative

What it is
An open-source SEO content tool. It picks topics from your own Search Console data, drafts articles in your site's voice, tracks where they rank and audits the site. Run it free on your own server, or let us host it.
Best for
Anyone who owns a site and wants AI-drafted articles they read before they go anywhere: a founder with one site on Managed, an agency with a client roster on Agency.
Pricing
€69/mo Managed (100 articles a month included, up to 3 sites, model and data costs included). €199/mo Agency (400 articles, unlimited sites and clients, priority support). Self-hosting is free; you pay your own model bill.

How AltoRank differs from Outrank

AltoRank versus Outrank, feature-by-feature comparison.
Feature AltoRank Outrank
Sites per plan One account, a workspace per site: 3 on Managed, unlimited on Agency Each site billed at $99/mo, 10–20% off from 2 sites
Voice Learned from the pages already on your site 5 tone presets + sample calibration
Reports PDF reports in your name and accent colour, on every plan; no custom domain None
Team roles Owner, Admin and Editor, each limitable to chosen sites, on every plan Unlimited users, no role split
Rank tracking Nightly position checks, up to 200 terms None
Site audit Crawl, PageSpeed and technical checks None
Pages that are slipping Pages a rewrite would help, found in your Search Console data and listed in Improvements None
Analytics integration Google Search Console (GA4 optional) None confirmed
AI model Claude (Anthropic); OpenAI for images Single undisclosed model
Getting articles onto your site Export as Markdown or copy as HTML; direct CMS connections are not self-serve yet Publishes to 9 CMSs + webhook
Source code Open source, self-hostable at no cost Proprietary SaaS
Who decides what goes out A named person: a click, or a rule they set and can pause Autopilot by default; human review is a $1,399/mo add-on
AI-readiness check Free crawl of what AI assistants can read, with schema and llms.txt drafted for you to paste None confirmed

The difference isn't one feature. You can read the code, run it yourself, and see why each article was chosen, from your own Search Console data.

AltoRank Managed is €69/mo against Outrank's $99/mo per site for 30 articles: 100 articles a month included (the default pace is about 30 a month per site, and you set it), up to 3 sites, keyword research and nightly rank tracking. Agency at €199/mo adds 400 articles, unlimited sites and clients, and priority support.

Where AltoRank loses

Newer platform. Smaller user community than Outrank, fewer third-party tutorials, no large public case-study library yet. And it does not publish to your CMS on its own yet: today you export each approved article as Markdown or HTML. If you want articles to land on your site with nobody touching them, Outrank does that now and we don't.

ContentMonk

Best for Quality-First Solo Writers

What it is
An AI content writer focused on content quality and brand-voice consistency. Built for solo content marketers and small in-house teams who care about how the article reads.
Best for
Solo content marketers, in-house marketing teams with one or two brands, and anyone whose primary frustration with Outrank is content quality.
Pricing
$99/mo Starter, 10 articles a month, 7-day free trial.

Where ContentMonk beats Outrank

ContentMonk's whole pitch is that they generate less "AI slop" than Outrank, and the testing they publish backs that up. Content quality is genuinely higher across most content types. If you've been pulling out hours of editing per Outrank article, ContentMonk shrinks that to 15–30 minutes.

Where AltoRank beats ContentMonk

ContentMonk is built for one brand at a time. No multi-client workspace, no per-client voice isolation, no white-label, no rank tracking, no agency role permissions. They're a great writer; agencies need an operating system. If you run content for one company, ContentMonk is a real contender. If you run content for fifteen, the math collapses fast.

Jasper

Best for Enterprise Brand Voice

What it is
A purpose-built AI writing platform for marketing teams with strict brand guidelines. Once the fastest-growing AI startup in history, now repositioned hard toward enterprise.
Best for
Mid-market and enterprise marketing teams with one to three brands and a written style guide that needs enforcement.
Pricing
$59/mo per seat (annual) or $69/mo (monthly).

Where Jasper beats Outrank

Brand-voice consistency. Feed Jasper a corpus of existing content and it maintains tone across hundreds of outputs better than Outrank's preset model does. 50+ marketing templates, multi-LLM access (GPT-4, Claude, Gemini), strong team collaboration.

Where AltoRank beats Jasper

Jasper's "workspaces" aren't voice-isolated the way agencies need. Switching between 15 distinct client voices in Jasper requires careful prompt discipline and template management, the platform doesn't enforce voice separation structurally. No white-label, no rank tracking, no content decay detection. Long-form content still requires meaningful editing for depth. Jasper's enterprise pricing also stings agencies running on margin: per-seat billing breaks down when your "team" includes part-time contractors and client reviewers.

SurferSEO

Best On-Page Optimization Layer

What it is
An on-page SEO optimization tool that scores and recommends, but doesn't generate content end-to-end. Complementary to a writing workflow, not a replacement for one.
Best for
Agencies that already have writers (in-house or freelance) and just need optimization grading on top.
Pricing
€59/mo Discovery, or €49/mo billed yearly.

Where SurferSEO differs from Outrank

SurferSEO doesn't try to be Outrank. It analyzes what's ranking, gives your draft a real-time SEO score, and tells the writer which terms to add. The writer is still a human (or a separate AI tool).

Where AltoRank beats SurferSEO

If you don't already have a writing stack, SurferSEO is half the workflow. AltoRank includes Surfer-like SEO scoring built in (no separate Surfer subscription), and actually drafts the content. If you have writers and want optimization grading only, SurferSEO is fine. If you don't have writers, you need both Surfer and a generator, and at that point you're back to tool stitching.

Visit SurferSEO for current pricing and feature details.

Scalenut

Best Budget All-in-One

What it is
A mid-market all-in-one SEO content platform (research, write, optimize, publish) at a low entry price.
Best for
In-house marketing teams of one to three brands wanting a budget all-in-one option.
Pricing
$59/mo Starter, often shown discounted.

Where Scalenut beats Outrank

Real rank tracking (Outrank doesn't have any), a usable content brief generator, and a lower entry price ($59/mo vs $99/mo). Decent all-in-one if you're a single brand.

Where AltoRank beats Scalenut

Voice profile depth, Scalenut uses tone presets similar to Outrank's preset model. No agency white-label, no per-client workspace isolation, no role-based permissions. Scalenut is a good Outrank replacement for in-house teams; it doesn't cross the line into agency-grade operations.

Visit Scalenut for current pricing and feature details.

Frase

Best Content Brief Generator

What it is
A content brief and research tool that's especially strong at building the brief, the upstream artifact a writer (human or AI) uses.
Best for
Content teams that brief out to human writers and need a fast, AI-assisted brief workflow.
Pricing
$49/mo Starter, or $39/mo billed yearly.

Where Frase beats Outrank

Best-in-class content brief generation. If your workflow is brief → human writer → publish, Frase is excellent at step one. SERP scraping, competitor outline analysis, question mining.

Where AltoRank beats Frase

Briefs are step one. Frase stops at the brief; AltoRank goes brief → draft → SEO score → internal links → export → rank tracking. If you already have a writing team and just need better briefs, Frase is a real tool. If you want the whole pipeline, you're back to stitching.

Visit Frase for current pricing and feature details.

AirOps

Best for Custom Workflows

What it is
A workflow orchestration platform for large-scale content operations, drag-and-drop workflow builder, multi-LLM access, spreadsheet-style bulk processing.
Best for
Technical agencies and large in-house teams with operations engineers who want to build the agency workflow from primitives.
Pricing
Free Solo tier (35,000 tasks a month); paid plans are quoted by sales.

Where AirOps beats Outrank

Workflow flexibility, multi-LLM access (40+ models), and the "Grids" feature for processing hundreds of articles in bulk. If you're refreshing 2,000 blog posts with updated statistics, AirOps can do it.

Where AltoRank beats AirOps

AirOps requires you to build the agency workflow. AltoRank ships it. Paid plans are quoted by sales, and one finished article takes many workflow tasks once research and processing run. AirOps makes sense if you have a dedicated content operations engineer; for most agencies, the build-it-yourself overhead is steeper than the tool sprawl it replaces.

Visit AirOps for current pricing and feature details.

Copy.ai

Best for Sales Copy and GTM Teams

What it is
Formerly an AI writing tool, now repositioned as a "go-to-market AI platform" focused on sales and short-form copy workflows.
Best for
Sales and GTM teams writing emails, ad copy, and short-form social, not content marketing teams writing long-form articles.
Pricing
$29/mo Chat (no workflow automation included).

Where Copy.ai beats Outrank

Strong short-form output, sales emails, ad copy, LinkedIn posts. Decent CRM integrations with Salesforce and HubSpot. If your job is outbound sales, this is the better tool.

Why we're including it anyway

Copy.ai shows up on SERPs for "Outrank alternative," but it's not really a content marketing tool anymore. Including it for completeness so you can rule it out. If you're a content agency, this isn't your tool.

Visit Copy.ai for current pricing and feature details.

You weren't really looking for an Outrank alternative.

What Outrank’s customers say

Outrank is the biggest of the autopilot tools and its reviews split cleanly by one habit. Every figure below is from their Trustpilot page or a named independent test, as read on 2 September 2026.

Trustpilot
72 reviews, 3.3 out of 5, 33% one-star, down from about 3.8 in February 2026. The company has replied to 6% of reviews and to none since January 2026. G2 sits at 4.6 from 93, and even a five-star G2 reviewer notes charges after the trial “that aren’t clearly disclosed and are difficult to cancel”.
Independent tests
aboahreviews (60 days, 3 sites): 15% of articles needed no edits, 65% light edits, 20% heavy rewrites. theStacc (July 2026): trial articles carry a watermark and must be re-published after paying.

“Charged me $99 after I tried to cancel before the trial ended. There is no cancel button in the app.”

Samuel Noriega, Trustpilot, 31 May 2026

“very sharp drop in Google Search Console impressions… immediately after the automated publishing… I would not connect Outrank.so to my main production website”

Shamas Ali, Trustpilot, 25 August 2026

“after ~14 backlinks… began adding backlinks to repeated same websites, which defeats the purpose”

Husnain, Trustpilot, 16 January 2026

“I go through and check everything and have to change very little”

Euan, 5★, Trustpilot, 5 February 2026

The pattern across the category is the same and we would rather show it than describe it: the satisfied reviewers are the ones who read every draft before it ships, the one-star reviewers trusted the default. In AltoRank every draft waits for a named person (a click, or a rule they set and can pause), you see your first article's outline, sources and fact check before you enter a card, the trial-ending email names the day you will be charged, and the cancel button is on the billing page. None of that is a feature; it is the answer to the reviews above.

Frequently asked questions

What is Outrank.so?

Outrank.so is an AI SEO content automation platform that drafts and publishes articles for a single website. It's designed for solo founders and small teams running one blog or one e-commerce site. It includes a backlink exchange network, basic optimization scoring, and CMS publishing to nine platforms plus webhook.

Is Outrank worth $99/month?

Yes, if you want hands-off publishing on one site and you're comfortable not reading every article first. Its own reviews split on exactly that habit (see above). If you run several sites, each needs its own subscription, so the cost multiplies with every site you add.

What's the best Outrank alternative for one website?

AltoRank Managed at €69/mo: topics from your own Search Console data, drafts in your site's voice, nightly rank tracking, and up to 3 sites. Or self-host it for free. If you want articles to publish themselves with no review, Outrank is still the closer fit, because AltoRank does not publish to your CMS on its own yet.

What's the best Outrank alternative for agencies?

AltoRank on the €199 Agency plan: unlimited client workspaces, Owner, Admin and Editor roles limitable per client, reports in your name and accent colour, and nightly rank tracking, metered on articles rather than seats. ContentMonk and Jasper are credible for in-house and enterprise use respectively, but neither has a multi-client layer.

Does Outrank have a free trial?

Outrank lets you sign up and preview keyword research and article generation before you subscribe; trial articles carry an Outrank watermark (its pricing page, read 12 October 2026). AltoRank runs a 7-day free trial on the hosted plans, card required, charged on day 8 unless you cancel from Billing first. Before the card you see your first article's outline, sources and fact check; the trial opens the full text. The self-hosted build is free forever with no trial to run out.

Can I migrate content from Outrank to another tool?

Yes. Your published articles stay on your CMS whichever tool you move to. AltoRank learns your voice from the pages already on your site, so there is nothing to import: you start by adding your domain.

What's the difference between Outrank.so and Outranking.io?

Different products. Outrank.so is the AI SEO content automation tool covered in this article. Outranking.io is a separate content optimization platform. They show up in similar SERP results, which causes regular confusion. This article is about Outrank.so.

Before you switch, find out what a crawler sees

Outrank and AltoRank both promise AI visibility. Neither claim is checkable from a pricing page, but the state of your own site is: see whether an AI assistant can read your site today. If robots.txt blocks GPTBot, no content tool fixes that.

Nine checks on the homepage, robots.txt, sitemap.xml and llms.txt. No account, no email gate, and a link you can share. The scoring is in the open-source code, so it can be read rather than trusted.
