Google rank checker: see where a domain ranks for a keyword right now.
Enter a domain, a keyword and a country. The tool runs one live Google search for that keyword in that country, through DataForSEO, and tells you whether the domain appears, where, and which of its URLs ranks. It is a real result, but a snapshot for one location at one moment.

Google rank checker
Runs on our server using DataForSEO search data. We count runs and never save what you enter; an identical request may be answered from memory for up to five minutes.
What you can do with it
- Check where a page landed a few weeks after publishing it
- See which of your URLs Google picks for a keyword, and whether it is the right one
- Compare your position in two countries for the same keyword
- Spot-check a competitor's position for a keyword you both want
How it works, step by step
- 1
Choose a small set of keywords
Pick the keywords each important page is meant to rank for, one or two per page. A short, deliberate list tells you more than a long one you never look at.
- 2
Check the country you sell in
Results differ by country, and often by city. Run the check for the market where your customers are, not where you happen to be sitting.
- 3
Compare the ranking URL to the intended one
If Google ranks a different page from the one you built for the keyword, two of your pages may be competing. Decide which page should own the keyword, then consolidate or differentiate the other.
- 4
Record it and check again over time
Note the date, position and URL. Check the same keywords on a regular schedule, such as every two weeks, and look at the direction over several checks rather than any single number.
- 5
Confirm with Search Console
For your own site, compare the snapshot with the average position in Google Search Console, which is measured across real searches over a period.
What a rank check tells you, and what it does not
A rank check answers a narrow question: for this keyword, in this country, right now, where does this domain appear? That is useful for confirming a page was indexed and is competing, for checking a market you cannot search from yourself, and for seeing which of your URLs Google chose.
It is not a measure of performance. Google tailors results to location, device and the searcher’s history, and positions move from day to day. A page at position six today may be at nine tomorrow without anything having changed on your side. One check is one sample.
Track a set, over time
Useful rank tracking is boring on purpose. Pick a fixed set of keywords, check them on a fixed schedule, and look at the direction over weeks rather than the number on any day.
- One or two keywords per important page. The ones the page was written to win.
- The same country every time. Changing the market changes the result.
- Record the ranking URL as well as the position. A change of URL is often more telling than a change of position.
For your own site, the average position in Google Search Console is the better long-run number, because it is Google’s own data across real searches. Use live checks for the markets and competitors that Search Console cannot show you.
When the wrong page ranks
If the tool reports a URL you did not expect, you may have two pages answering the same search. This is often called cannibalization. Google picks one, and it is not always the one you wanted.
Decide which page should own the keyword. Then either merge the weaker page into the stronger one and redirect it, or change the weaker page so it answers a clearly different question. Link from the other page to the owner with descriptive anchor text, and use the canonical checker to confirm neither page points its canonical at the wrong URL.
Where AltoRank fits
The free growth plan shows what a domain already ranks for and which keywords are within reach. AltoRank plans and drafts content toward those keywords every week, and a person approves each piece before it publishes.
Frequently asked questions
Is this my real Google ranking?
It is a real Google result, fetched live through DataForSEO for the keyword and country you chose. But there is no single real ranking. Results vary by location, device, language, search history and time of day, so another person searching the same keyword may see your page higher or lower.
Why does it differ from what I see when I search?
Your own searches are shaped by where you are, your device, and what you have searched and clicked before. The tool runs a clean search for the chosen country, which is closer to what a new visitor sees there, though still not identical.
What is the better measure for my own site?
The average position in Google Search Console's Performance report. It is Google's own data, averaged across every search where your site appeared over a period. A live check is a snapshot; Search Console shows the trend.
It says my domain was not found. Does that mean I do not rank?
It means the domain did not appear in the results the tool checked for that search. You may rank lower down, in a different country, or only for a close variant of the keyword. Check the spelling of the domain, then try a narrower keyword.
Does it store my domain or keyword?
No. The query goes through our server to DataForSEO for the live search result, the answer comes back to your browser, and we keep only a count of how many times the tool ran that day. There is a daily usage limit so it can stay free without a signup.
Why does a different URL from my site rank?
Google picked the page it judged most relevant for the search. If that is not the page you meant, the two pages probably overlap. Make the intended page clearly the best answer and link to it from the other, or merge them. Also check the intended page's canonical tag points to itself.
